class work 12/9/10

Ceasar brought order to Rome with his reforms.Ceasar started colonies where the landless can have land. Also Ceasar governed as an abslute ruler. Rome had a great military so they took control of many places. Octavius took control after Julius Ceasar's death and stoped a civil war.

One of the reasons that it fell was the use of violence by the Roman elite. After the attempted reforms of the Gracchi brothers, Tiberius and Gaius in the 130s to 120s BCE, violence and bribery became endemic in the system. Tiberius and Gaius were murdered by mobs controlled by the senatorial elite after the Gracchis use of novel constitutional methods. The Republic (not the empire) came to and end when one Republican statesman became in effect a monarch, Octavian, later to become the first Roman Emperor Augustus.

1)
Civil War- Conflict between groups within the same country.
Julius Caesar- An ambitious and daring leader Who brought order to Rome.
Triumvirate- A group of three rulers.
Absolute Ruler- One who has total power.
Augustus- The unchallenged ruler of Rome Octavian.
Pax Romana- A period of peace and prosperity.
gladiators- professional fighters who fought to the death in public contests.

2)
During this time, the Roman Empire included more than 3 million square miles. Its population numbered between 60 and 80 million people. About 1 million people lived in the city of Rome itself. Agriculture was the most important industry in the empire. Everything depended on it. About 90 percent of the people were engaged in farming. Most Romans survived on the produce from their local area.a silver coin called a denarius was in use throughout the empire. Having common coinage made trade between different parts of the empire much easier. Something i consider negative is that the rich would get more things than the poor. "Additional foodstuffs and luxury items for the rich were obtained through trade." Although it makes sense it is still wrong.

3)
The role that Caesar played in the decline of the republic and the rise of the empire is that he brought order to Rome.He granted Roman citizenship to many people in the provinces. He expanded the senate, adding friends and supporters from Italy and the provinces. Caesar helped the poor by creating jobs, especially through the construction of new public buildings. He started colonies where the landless could own land and increased pay for soldiers.

The thing that interests me about Rome is how Caesar came to power and his death. Because why would his freind plot against him. Also its funny that every one knew he was going to die but he did not listen. It was like he knew that his actions would get people angry and that he knew that they were going to kill him. Like a great leader he accepted his fate.

1)They were raised away from their uncle because they were put in a basket as new borns and then the basket was put in the Tiber river.
2)They slaughtered their uncle.
3)Romulus was the only ruler because he killed his brother. He killed his brother because they got into an argument on where the empire should be.
4)753 B.C.
5)Around 1000 B.C.
6)The term latin came from the name of the Plains of Latium where the early romans lived.
7)The name of the river was Tiber.
8)The difference between a myth and a fact is that a myth is a story while a fact is s something that actually happened. The difference in the creation of Rome myth is that in the myth the people who told the story made it seem that Rome was made quickly when in reality it took many many years to make it. Also the dates are wrong as far as we know.
9)Beacue it involves gods, twins being raised by a wolf, Boys slaughtering their uncle, and romulus "disappearing into the clouds".
10)The story is that god made Adam and took a rib from him to make Eve. After that they were told that there are two trees you should not eat from the tree of knowlage and the tree of life. Eve got tempted by a snake to eat the fruit of knowlge and she tempted Adam to eat also. Then god figured out that they ate the fruit and banshed them from the garden of Eden.

This is an article about the evolution of gaming. It shows that technolagy has gone so far that now we can just use our bodies and our voices to control things. The name of the product on display is Kinect for the XBOX 360. While in to days world people try to put more gadgets into your hand Kinect removes evrything and puts you in the center of things. There are many sensors on the Kinect, there are also many microphones in the peice its self and prossesors in it to recognize your voice so it can tell who you are. I decided to write about theis article because i myself have an xbox and  have been anticipating this for so long. I also will be getting the device. In class we are learning about the greeks and that they invented so many thing, well we just invented a new peice of technalogy that will go down in history.

In the video that I saw it was about The Persian Wars. Greece had a mountainous terrain. This caused the people in Greece to be isolated from each other and form city states. They argued and sometimes fought each other. This put them at a disadvantage. Athens beat Persia in the first war but one of their cities was captured and burned to the ground. The Persians retreated but the Greeks realized that they would return with more soldiers and more power. During this time the Greek city states came together with a army 100,000 strong to defend greece. Athens manufactured the war ships that Greece used. The Greeks won by leading the Persian vessels down a small water path where the large ships had trouble moving around in the water compared to the smaller Greek vessels. So because of this the greek vessels got around easier and used their ram on the front of the ship to sink the Persians ships.

This article is about scientist that have found a new earth like planet in a near by solar system. Gliese 581g is located  some 20 light-years away in the "Goldilocks zone". The telescope that found was in Hawaii. A quote from one of the scientists is "The fact that we were able to detect this planet so quickly and so nearby tells us that planets like this must be really common." Which i think means that there has to be at least one with aliens on it. Gliese 581g has a mass about three to four times that of Earth. It orbits its sun in 37 days and is thought to be a rocky world. It  also has enough gravity to possibly have an atmosphere.
Gliese 581 g
I decided to share this article because we found new earth like planets near by. This opens so many possibilities to our kind, human kind. In class we are learning about great civilizations and there might be great civilizations on this planet too.

H.W. #5

This video focuses on Ethiopia were Lucy was found. Lucy which was the first and oldest skeleton found in ethiopia was discovered in 1974. archaeologists estimate she is around 3.2 million years old. She was a Bipedel  which means she stood up on 2 legs like a human. Humans began to evolve in Africa.

Hunters and gatheres were on the move alot because the were following a herd of animals which also makes them nomads. While they were on the move they collected nuts, berries, and greens to eat. I personally think Lucy was a gatherer because she was a woman and the women gathered berries  nuts and other things to eat.

homework #4

An absolute location is the longitude and latitude of a specific location on Earth. For example Los Angeles would be 34 degrees north latitude  and 118 degrees west longitude. Another example is Paris,France, that would be 49 degrees north latitude and 2 degrees east longitude. Capetown,South Africa would be
34 degrees south latitude and 18 degrees east longitude.

relative location is when you locate something by the things around it. For example London the capital of the U.K. is located on the thames river  a major water way. It is possible to do this with anything. For example Queens,New York is located between Brooklyn and Bronx.
